The Boredom Continues

Second day of jury service and having been chosen for a trial I was really looking forward to getting into it.

Unfortunately, we ended up sitting around in the holding room all morning until just before lunch when we were called down to the court room. After taking our seats the judge then informed us that we were going to be discharged as a jury!

Apparently one of the jurors was late because he had to travel a long way on public transport and because of the nature of the case and that it was going to last for a few days the judge didn’t want anything to delay it and so he decided to select a new jury.

These were his words, but I’ve got a feeling that it was actually the juror who they didn’t like. He had turned up the previous day in a very bad wig, he was carrying some Lidl (or similar) shopping bags and generally looked a right state. I wouldn’t be surprised if he wasn’t a little bit mental in the head. In fact he was probably a lot mental!

The judge discharged us and told us there was a huge possibility that we would be re-chosen to sit on the case when they re-called for it. So we were sent back to the waiting room where we sat and waited again. Lunchtime came and went without a sniff of a case although some people were called down.

3.15 arrived with still no news. Eventually at 4.20pm we were told that we could go home and to return in the morning.

On the plus side the book I’m reading one of Lee Child’s Jack Reacher novels is quite good and fills the time well!
