Here We Go Again
After sitting around for most of last week waiting to be called onto a case, I returned to the Maidstone Crown Court expecting much of the same this week. Having been given a couple of half days I was hoping that I would at least get to see the inside of a courtroom.
The morning passed just as the majority of them did last week, listening to the incessant drone of the TV while trying to immerse myself in my book. And after lunch it was more of the same but at 3pm I was called down as one of 15 potential jurors to get selected for a case. Oh the joy! My second chance to sit on a case and make a difference to society.
But I wasn’t selected so I was shepherded back to the waiting room with the other two unfortunate people, to sit and wait again. Hopefully I was going to be sent home early again. But less than an hour later my name was called out again and I had another chance.
This time I was successful! I was ready to do my bit. After being sworn in, the judge asked us to wait outside the courtroom while they dealt with some legal ‘stuff’ and a few minutes later we were called back in to start the trial.
Except we weren’t.
We were fecking discharged from the case! I don’t know the reason for being discharged as I was too pissed off to listen. I just couldn’t believe it!
We all returned to the waiting room before being told to go home and return once again tomorrow for more of the same old crap. At this point there was only myself and one other woman who had yet to sit on a case. Everyone else had done at least one, and some were on their second!
