GT5 Problem
I loaded up Gran Turismo last night hoping to do a few laps in my newly purchased Evo X Touring Car (I like Evos!) which had come as part of the downloadable Racing Car Pack on the PSN Store, but when I got to my garage to select my car I was met with a huge dollop of disappointment!
A message was displayed telling me that I needed to install the Racing Car Pack and I couldn’t use the car until I had done so. So I clicked out and back to the Download Content to reinstall the data, but it wouldn’t let me do this either.
Everything had been fine before installing the 2.03 update a few days before, as I’d taken a couple of other cars from the Racing Pack out for a spin already.
I tried turning it off and then on again but still had the same issue. I bought a new download pack to see if I could install that and funnily enough I was given the option to do so. It looked like there was a problem with the install data.
I reached out to the Twitterverse to see if anybody had any suggestons but everything that came back I’d either tried or the game wasn’t giving me the option to try things. I checked on GTPlanet, a forum for all things Gran Turismo, to see if this had happened before and there was someone who had had the same problem, but no one was offering a solution.
So it appeared as though I was stuck with a dozen cars in my garage that I couldn’t use.
Until this morning when I tried something that I had no idea would work or not. If it was the install data then all i had to do was somehow overwrite it. But I couldn’t reinstall it or re-download it from the PSN store. But I could download the Family Pack which was a piece of data that would allow the Racing Pack to be shared across all users on one PS3.
It would effectively be updating the install data (or so I thought). It was worth a shot, especially as it wasn’t going to cost anything. So this morning before leaving for work I booted the PS3 (turned it on, not kicked it!) and downloaded the Family Pack, then started the game and headed to the garage…
It had worked! The set of cars were all selectable! All those hours of trying different things to get it working and I finally had a fully working garage once again.
Unfortunately I had to go to work so I still haven’t had a chance to race that Evo X Touring Car yet!
