Time To Stand Down
After a somewhat enjoyable five years, I made the decision a few weeks ago to step down as the manager of my football club, Medway 2000 FC.
Last season was quite a difficult one in terms of results and we had problems in fielding a full squad on a number of occassions. As a result, I was getting a little disheartened with it and nearly wound up the club around Christmas time.
I was also finding it increasingly difficult to come through 90 minutes unscathed, mainly due to the fact that I couldn’t spend enough (or in most cases, any) time warming up, as I ran around trying to sort out the team for the day, filling in all the paperwork and generally getting everything sorted before the game.
As there wasn’t much interest from the current crop of players, I have had to keep my post as secretary, and one of the players only decided to take on the role of manager because no-one else wanted to do it!
At the end of last season we lost a number of players for one reason or another, and so I’ve been busy over the summer trying to get people interested in playing for us next year. I set up a Facebook page and got some awareness driven through advertising the club on there (thus enhancing my own Facebook advertising skills required for my new job!).
There’s been quite a bit of interest and hopefully we’ll see some new faces in July when training for next season gets underway.
So as we start looking forward to the new season there’s a few things to get sorted, not just players. We need to sort out new balls, first aid kits, kits for the new players and a load of other bits and pieces that keep adding up!
Let’s hope that what could be my last season as a player will be an enjoyable one, and one that I can go out on a high with!
