Saying Goodbye To My Thirties
The last day of my thirties and so we decided to something a bit different.
After a relaxed breakfast we were picked up at the hotel by Spice Dive for another couple of dives. It was a forty minute drive to Tulamben, the site of the Liberty Wreck dive site, a sunken World War II US Navy cargo ship that was attacked by a Japanese Sub in 1942.
We’d not dived a proper wreck before and it was quite an exhilarating experience. The first of our two dives was a ‘deep’ 25m dive and with the way my dives have been going recently, it didn’t last too long although we got a good look at the wreck itself and saw many types of fish as well as an amazing eel garden.
After a short break we had our second dive which was shallower so lasted longer and gave us more time to explore within the wreck itself. It was really enjoyable and from the shore you cannot tell that such a large vessel lies just thirty metres away!
We ate our packed lunch on the way back to the hotel via a quick stop off to buy some drinks and snacks for our room for the rest of the week and then relaxed by the pool for the rest of the afternoon before we had – and I can’t believe I’m writing this – our manicures and pedicures!
The Spa Village Resort hotel has two private villas with their own pools and on the off-chance we investigated the opportunity of upgrading to one of them. After much negotiation with three different levels of management, we finally got them to a very good price and so while we were having dinner, our bags were moved to Villa Samudra.
