Honeymoon Here We Come!
Due to the wife having to start a new job 10 days after we got married, we decided to put off going on a proper honeymoon until next year and just went off to Rome for a few days for a little break. Putting it off until 2011 also meant we weren’t restricted on when or where we could go, as we could go away at any time we wanted.
We already had a bit of an idea of where to go, as we had both always wanted to visit Borneo and she had always wanted to stay at the Shangri-La Rasa Ria resort as it has an orang-utan sanctuary within the grounds. But we just didn’t want to just stay there for 2 weeks, we wanted a little bit of adventure as well. There’s no point going all that way just to stay within the hotel grounds, you may as well get out and about!
The last couple of weeks we’d been into a travel agents to get various options priced up and had narrowed everything down and so when we popped into Thomsons yesterday we got another itinerary priced up. However, we hadn’t planned on making the decision there and then but we were told that all airport taxes were going to go up on the 1st November and so whatever price we were quoted would change considerably after the 1st!
We only had a day to make a decision, or else run the risk of not being able to go at all, as the holiday was already at the very top end of our budget. The rise in taxes would send it over and we had said we would not go over budget, no matter what!
And so after some more questions were fired off to the travel agents and new flight times were chased we headed back to the store this afternoon to book what would be our proper honeymoon. It starts with a three day tour around Borneo, that visits a turtle island and takes in the forests and countryside, before we head to the Shangri-La Rasa Ria for a few nights. From here we then fly up to Langkawi to stay at the Tanjung Rhu resort on the north of the island before returning home.
Neither of us can now wait for what will be a trip of a lifetime, especially as it’s one of those places we’ve always wanted to go to! I’m sure the next 3 months will be spent looking at loads of photos on the website’s hotels as the anticipation reaches fever pitch!
